The short version

Live Location is free, requires no account, and does not keep your location history. Live sharing is anonymous and auto-expiring; your position is published only while you’re actively sharing.

How live sharing works

When you start sharing, the backend creates an anonymous channel identified by an unguessable link and a private control token held only on your device. While you’re sharing, your latest position is published to that channel so people with the link can see it; it is short-lived and is removed when you stop or when the link expires. We don’t require an account and don’t associate a shared location with your identity.

What else we process

When a page loads, our edge reads your approximate location from your IP to tailor the experience — processed in memory and not logged by us. If a tool needs an address for a point, the coordinates are sent to a cached proxy (OpenStreetMap Nominatim) solely to return a result; we don’t retain them.

Browser location

Sharing uses your browser’s geolocation, which always asks your permission first. Your position is sent to the backend only while you are actively sharing, and stops immediately when you stop.

Cookies & analytics

We use local storage only to remember preferences such as your chosen language. We do not sell your data.
